ABOUT LYNSLUV Bassets

Lynsluv Bassets covers some 80 acres of mixed open grass lands and medium density Mallee forests. We argue that a Basset couldn't ask for a better environment to be a Basset in. Surrounded by lightly wooded farmlands and with miles of unpopulated pristine tidal beaches minutes away, we think we are in Basset heaven. For pictures of our property please go to the "our home" section of the photographs in this site.

Where is LYNSLUV Bassets?

LYNSLUV Bassets is located in South Australia, some eighty kilometers north of the states capital city Adelaide. Situated close to national highway one and with an international air port a mere sixty minute drive away, the World is easily accessible. As previously mentioned, the property itself consists of approximately 80 acres of grasslands, with roughly 30% of the property given over to medium density woodlands. The whole of our property is in turn surrounded by lightly wooded broad acre farmlands, supporting vast amounts and types of light game animals and a seemingly endless variety of bird life. This is we believe an ideal environment for a LYNSLUV Basset Hound. The game rich fields and woods provide hours of fun for them as they sniff and snuffle their way around, doing what Bassets have enjoyed doing for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Those of you looking for more precise directions on how to find us are welcome to click on the 'Directions to LYNSLUV' link on this page. This link will take you to a series of maps and a complete set of instructions on how to find us. For those of you who may wish to come out for a visit and to share an afternoon with us and our Bassets, we ask that you do us the courtesy of contacting us first. In that way we can ensure that you have our undivided attention.

For those of you who may be contemplating a stay, we do have a self contained 'unit' that is available. This unit is used by other breeders coming to South Australia for short stays and often by interstate Basset Hound exhibitors, attending South Australia's majour dog shows.

Philosophy

In a nut shell we here at LYNSLUV believe that it is an honour and privilege to be involved in the development of such a noble and ancient breed.

The Basset Hound has been around for thousands of years and as we sit at home surrounded by our hounds we are conscience of and humbled by the many who have gone before us, developing, promoting and protecting these fabulous creatures.

Why show a Basset Hound?

These days it is quite fashionable to pass off dog shows and dog showing as a rather eccentric and somewhat indulgent pass-time. Nothing could be further from the truth. We here at LYNSLUV Bassets believe that dog shows are an integral and very important part of our breeding program.

When one embarks on something as far reaching as a breeding program it is very easy to become blinded by ones own 'genius' and to fall into the trap of believing that as the breeder you are infallible. Dog shows expose your dogs to the thoughts and opinions of other experts in the canine world and help prevent such myopic and dangerous views. This interaction with other experts provides much needed feedback on the progression of a breeding program and allows for the exchange of all manner of useful information about dogs in general and Bassets in particular, in an environment that although competitive, is always good natured and stimulating.

LYN

Provides the heart and soul of LYNSLUV Bassets and it is her love of and desire to work with them, that resulted in LYNSLUV Bassets being born. Lyn has over 30 years of experience working with, showing and breeding dogs and has had a love of Bassets that covers decades Whilst happy Living in the suburbs of Adelaide with her show dogs, Lyn realised that Bassets are much better by the truck load, so 12 years ago a move was made to the near country and from that point Bassets grew from a mild fever to an all encompassing passion. Lyn jealously guards the heritage of these wonderful dogs and uses the knowledge gained from her years of practical experience to ensure each LYNSLUV Basset is a true representative of the breed. Lyn currently has 11 Bassets of her own, all of whom are more than happy to share the house with her and her husband Gordon.

Gordon

If Lyn is the heart and soul of LYNSLUV Bassets, then Gordon is the engine room. Like Lyn, Gordon has worked for many, many years within the canine industry and like Lyn he has had a long love of the Basset Hound, so he did not take much convincing when Lyn suggested they move to the country and get "a few more dogs".

Gordon has a gift with new born puppies and will often spend sleepless nights working with new born Bassets to keep them healthy and get them off to the best possible start in life.
